About Us

LCG Working Group on Agriculture, Food Security and Rural Development (LCG-AFSRD) was reconstituted in March 2022. Major recent activities under the AFSRD WG includes: Sharing DPs’ Strategic Programme Frameworks, Establishing global standard Agricuttural Laboratory, Program for Agricultural & Rural Transformation for Nutrition, Entrepreneurship, and Resilience (PARTNER), Global Agriculture Food Security Program (GAFSP) and Agriculture Sector Transformation Programme (ATP).

Objective

Our Objective

The objective of the LCG Working Group on Agriculture, Food Security, and Rural Development (LCG-AFSRD) is to enhance agricultural practices, ensure food security, and promote rural development in Bangladesh through collaboration among development partners and government bodies. By sharing strategic program frameworks and supporting initiatives like the establishment of a global standard Agricultural Laboratory, the LCG-AFSRD aims to drive innovation and improve agricultural exports. The group also focuses on implementing comprehensive programs such as PARTNER and ATP to benefit smallholder farmers and strengthen the agricultural sector.

Profile of the Co-Chair

Mr. Jiaoqun Shi has joined as the new Representative for Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Bangladesh on 31 December 2023. Shi, a national of China, holds a Master of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Wuhan University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Law from the National Academy of Governance in China. He joined FAO in 2019 as Senior Compliance Advisor to the Deputy Director-General at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy and since January 2021, he had been serving as Special Adviser at the FAO Regional Office for Asia
and the Pacific (RAP) in Bangkok, Thailand.

What We Do

Scope of Work

  1. To facilitate and coordinate the overall development program of the Agriculture Sector m Bangladesh through effective policy formulation.
  2. Provide a platform for continuous GOB-DP dialogue in order to promote harmonization and alignment of activities.
  3. Facilitate inter-ministerial decision making (integrate key cross-cutting issues) during implementation of Program.
  4. Contribute to ensuring mutual monitoring and accountability with GOB and DPs.
  5. Provide input during preparation of the Sectoral Program Plan/Strategies.
  6. Monitor commitment and disbursement of Project Aid in Agriculture Sector.
  7. Any other related issues.
