About Us
The LCG Working Group on Water Supply and Sanitation and Urban (LCG WG – WASH&U) is an interactive and broad communication and information sharing platform for development partners and groups representatives in Bangladesh. It is the forum of the representative of Government, Development Partners, NGOs, academia, and Civil Societies working on WASH and urban development.

Our Objective
The overall objective of the LCG Working Group on Water Supply and Sanitation and Urban is to contribute towards effective and coordinated implementation of National Policies, Strategies, Plans and Programmes on urban development and WASH in rural and urban areas of Bangladesh with an emphasis on reaching the poorest citizens and achieving the SDG.

A graduate of Bio Engineering as well as Water Resources Engineering studies, Mr. Maes served as Chief of WASH in the UNICEF Kinshasa, Democratic Rep. of Congo before joining UNICEF Bangladesh. Earlier that he has been concurrently the Leader of the WASH Working Group of MSF International, Vector Control expert in the Malaria Working Group of MSF International, Coordinator of the Environmental Health Unit of MSF-OCB based in Brussels, Belgium. What We Do
Scope of Work
- Advocate for adequate sector financing to achieve the goals and targets set by GoB and allocate a separate budget code for WASH.
- Integrate adaptation measures for WASH and urban development interventions and infrastructures to ensure resilience against the effects of disaster and Climate Change.
- Emphasize operation and maintenance of infrastructures with separate allocation of funding for Operation & Maintenance (O&M)
- Work towards surface and ground water protection and pollution control, hygiene promotion, safe sanitation, gender, and social inclusion for sustainable development.
- Sustainable urban development (Preparation & Implementation of Master Plan) giving emphasis on waste management, primary health care, communication infrastructure, environment, climate resilient housing and equitable social harmony development.
