About Us

It has been more than a decade since the Government of Bangladesh has set up a strong organizational mechanism – Local Consultative Groups (LCG) to coordinate its developmental and sectoral goals, policies, and strategies with Development Partners (DPs) for enhancing the effectiveness of development cooperation. The main goal of the LCG Working Group on Governance and Social Protection is to intensify cooperation in various governance and social protection related interventions of bilateral and multilateral development partners of Bangladesh including UN organizations.

Our Objective

The main objective of this working group is to contribute towards effective and coordinated implementation of policies, strategies, plans and programmes relating to govemance and social protection through joint result targets and a shared monitoring framework.

Profile of the Chair

Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid joined the Cabinet Division as Secretary on 16 October 2024. He is the 25th Cabinet Secretary of the Government of Bangladesh. Dr. Rashid of 1982 batch of Civil Service (Administration) cadre has accumulated experience of working at various levels of field administration. In a long and illustrious career, he has played a distinguished role at various national and policy-making levels of government. In this regard, his duties as ‘Upazila Nirbahi Officer’ of Sherpur Upazila of Bogra District, ‘Additional Deputy Commissioner’ of Feni District and ‘Deputy Commissioner’ of Tangail District are noteworthy. It should also be noted that he also served as Director and Director General in the Prime Minister’s Office.

What We Do

Scope of Work

  1. Coordinate work to provide strategic support to the Government in national priority policy formulationparticularly on social protection and governance issues;
  2. Promote harmonization and alignment of activities with other task force teams to avoid duplication and provide necessary guidance and feedback and monitor achievements in respective fields;
  3. Provide feedback to the Government and LCG Plenary on progress in the achievements of targets outlinedin the results framework and also identify restraints in achieving those targets;
  4. Review national policy issues relating to governance and social protection and extend cooperationin effective implementation;
  5. Promote and facilitate common intentions and integration of policies, approaches and efforts of Government and Development Partners;
  6. Provide a forum for information exchange and coordination for the Government and Development Partners including targets, achievements, challenges, activities and new initiatives;
  7. Ensure mutual monitoring of government and Development Partners’ activities and achievements in the relevant field, and provide necessary feedback to ensure high-level national policy implementation to promote good governance and strengthen social protection systems;
  8. Conduct joint fact-finding, field review or evaluation missions to assess the challenges to promoting good governance and social protection and recommend government
  9. Finally, enable and engage representation from the civil society to contribute to policy dialogue with government and Development partners on governance and social protection.
